
Capacity development of local government teams in planning and implementing cross sectorial actions to address malnutrition and food insecurity
The Project “Capacity development of local government teams in planning and implementing cross sectorial actions to address malnutrition and food insecurity” is the second project supported by UNICEF Albania in the framework of the Joint Nutrition Program.
Following the Study “capacity and needs assessment of key local actors and communities in the Regions of Tirana, Shkoder and Kukes to address malnutrition and food insecurity issues” and based on its recommendations, the Foundation “Partnership for Development” proposed a package of interventions that would focus on:
– Increase the awareness level of local actors on the causes and consequences of malnutrition and the diseases deriving from it;;
– To build the capacities of Local Government and local actors to address, implement and manage the nutrition and food security situation in their territories;
– To draft Local Actions Plans for the management of nutrition and food security situation in the Communes involved in the needs assessment;
– To establish Cross-Sectoral Action Units for the implementation of these plans for the improvement of health and social situation of the community of the target areas;
In framework of this project, the following actions have implemented:
– 7 Regional Trainings where involved 15 Local Government Units, about 230 specialists from the health, education, social services and agriculture sectors, from the communes of Bushat, Shkoder Rrethina, Kukes, Bicaj, Golaj, Kamez, Tirane, Paskuqan, Shkrel, Kastrat, Puke, Iballe, Shishtavec, Zapod, Topojan, Tropoje e Vjeter, Bujan;
– 64 meetings of the cross-sectoral working groups implemented at commune level, for information collection and needs identification for the drafting of the Local Action Plans for the management of nutrition and food security situation;
– Drafted 15 Local Plans for the Management of Nutrition and Food security;
– Established 15 Cross-Sectoral Units nearby 15 Communes for the implementation of the local plans;
– These actions have involved 12 Trainers for the capacity building sessions for the target groups; 3 Experts for the technical assistance to the working groups for the Local Action Plans drafting; 7 Local Facilitators for coordination and support for the establishment of the Local Management Units and local plans drafting;
